Blog 23: Final Lesson Reflection

(1) Positive Statement

What are you most proud of in your block presentation and/or your senior project? Why?
I am most proud of my PowerPoint, I really put a lot of time into it and came out to be about 80 slides total. But for senior project overall, I'm proud of all the knowledge and experience I have gained. I can use it for future needs.

(2) Questions to Consider

a.     What assessment would you give yourself on your block presentation (self-assessment)?

P-

b.     What assessment would you give yourself on your overall senior project (self-assessment)?

AP+

(3) What worked for you in your senior project?
That I could easily learn about my topic since I enjoyed it.

(4) (What didn't work) If you had a time machine, what would you have done differently to improve your senior project if you could go back in time?
I would maybe do more research for my answer 3, I feel like it could have had just a little more.

(5) Finding Value

How has the senior project been helpful to you in your future endeavors?   Be specific and use examples.
I really liked the way you guys had us research. The note taking was helpful and writing up a paper really helped me for my presentation. Going out to find mentors or someone to interview was also helpful. I can now use this experience to become even better.

Exit Interview

(1) What is your essential question, and what are your answers?  What is your best answer and why?
EQ: How can a young man best use nutrition and exercise to promote a healthy muscle mass?
Answer 1: A young man can promote muscle mass by doing heavy lifting.
Answer 2: A young man can also promote muscle mass by having a clean diet.
Answer 3: Finally, sprinting can promote muscle mass.
Best answer: A young man can best promote a healthy muscle mass by having a clean diet.
I chose this as the best answer because nutrition is what determines how lean the muscle can be so it emphasizes on the 'healthy muscle mass'

(2) What process did you take to arrive at this answer?
I did a variety of research and also have done it myself to try out. Theres were also a lot of videos that I watched from my independent component 2.

(3) What problems did you face?  How did you resolve them?
I injured myself in the beginning of the project and thought I was done for but with time, I healed. Also, finding a mentor was difficult but ended up having one from the gym I go to.

(4) What are the two most significant sources you used to answer your essential question and why?
I found that Elliott Hulse was a huge help for me in research.
Also Travis hansen from Tnation

April

In the month of April was mainly just independent component 2 and turning that in. Also I have been prepping for my presentation. Hopefully my presentation is going to be best. Research is another thing I have to be working on as well. I am almost done with it and will be best in the exit interview. Research has actually been fun because I like my topic and learning new things was really fascinating to me. I'm going to use my knowledge that I gained from this to use in the future when I have more free time to go to the gym and make some gains. I go from time to time but not as much as I would like. Weight training has been very useful elective so I have extra days to workout.

Independent Component 2

LITERAL
(a) I, Anthony Torres, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 30 hours and 10 minutes of work.
(b) Most of the videos were by Elliot Hulse of strength camp. He has very long videos so this helped me complete it faster.
(c) log hours updated
(d) I watched numerous videos about my topic and I wrote some notes for evidence.

INTERPRETIVE

APPLIED
This component helped me answer my EQ because the person who made the videos is very educated in muscle building. He knows different ways to build muscle instead of just the bodybuilding way. He also had videos on nutrition and much more. This was a huge help for answering my EQ.

March

For the month of March, I have mainly been working on my I independent component 2 since I have to watch 30 hours worth of video. The videos I have been watching are fun though. Especially if they have people that I am a fan of that are lifting or doing whatever that helps answer my EQ. There are two movies that I have watched that are really cool like Generation Iron and Pumping Iron with bodybuilders or with Arnold in them. They are really serious about their muscle mass and perfecting it.

Independent Component 1

Literal
A) I, Anthony Torres affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 32 hours and 30 minutes of work.

B) I have a book log of what I did each day in the gym.
D) I went to the gym for this component and had a nice routine.

Interpretive
The gym is very significant to my project because it provided me experience and experimenting with different workouts. I have increased a nice amount of my muscle mass. I will provide evidence with my notebook of my workouts.

This helped me understand how exercising can promote muscle mass. There is a photo of me in a previous post of me in the gym and that proves that heavy lifting can increase mass.

January

In the month of January, I have been working with my mentor and been researching to expand my knowledge of gaining muscle mass. I finished my independent component hours but I have to update my log. It was really fun doing this independent component and can not wait to do the next one. My muscle mass has increased and this is good experience to support my EQ. Nice way to start the new year of 2015.
