December Post

For the month of December, I finally found a new mentor. My uncle is a trainer at a gym. He said that I can work with him for my project. other than that, I have been working on my independent component and I am almost finished with my gains. It has been really fun going to the gym.

Extra Blog Post: November

The gym is going very well. I am almost done with the hours. The only thing that i need is another mentor since the basketball one ended. It has given me more time to do my independent component though. I am also getting ready for lesson plan 2 because lesson 1 went horrible for me.

Blog 10: EQ

1. I reviewed the rule of three for writing an EQ.

2. Review the following EQ's.
A) What is the most important factor in healthy weight loss?
- It meets the rule of three
- not a yes or no question
- takes a stance
- makes sense but could be worded different

B) What is most important to securing a conviction in a criminal investigation?
- kind of meets rule of three
- not a yes or no question
- takes stance
- makes sense

C) What is most important in creating a hairstyle that best satisfies a customer?
- meets rule of three
- not yes or no question
- Takes stance
- makes sense but only focuses on one answer

D) How can an anesthesiologist best treat chronic pain?
- meets rule of three
- not yes or no question
- takes stance
- makes sense

Blog 9: Lesson 1 Reflection

1. In my lesson 1 presentation, I am proud of the fact that I made time! That's pretty much the only thing I did good, and also my fun facts.

2. A) I would have given myself an AP
    B) I gave myself a map because I did have many problems speaking. but I did speak about my topic and I also brought props.

3. I feel like my props sort of worked for me. Thats about it.

4. If I could have went back in time, I would have practiced my presentation at least once. I blanked out when I went up to present because I was so nervous about the time. Now i know how easy it was so next time will be no problem!

Space Jam!

During the month of October, I was an assistant coach for a basketball team at an elementary school. Last weekend was their tournament and they won 1 game out of 3. It was really fun doing this for part of my mentorship and having the kids do physical activity while they're having fun.

Here is a picture of me with the team after the tournament.

Blog 8: Research and Working EQ

1. What are the best ways for someone to improve on their fitness?

2. The best way for someone to improve their fitness is to…
  • Eat/drink correctly
  • Stretch (ex: yoga or just at home)
  • Train correctly and safely
3. Every source of research that I have used helped me answer my working EQ.

4. I am helping to coach a basketball team at a school. This relates to my topic because sports is one of the best ways of getting exercise to help your life's fitness if you are serious enough and dedicated.

Blog 7: Independent Component 1 Approval

1. I plan on doing my hours at the gym. I will be working out and becoming stronger and fit.
2. I can either take pictures of the gym or have my parents sign something to prove that I did it.
3. The gym is probably the best place for fitness, so 30 hours at the gym will be beneficial for me and my project.

Additional Blog of September

What I have learned so far:
Well, about a month ago I injured myself in the gym trying to make some more gains. I had severe headaches for a week and I finally decided to head to the hospital. I took some CT scans of my brain and the doctors said they seen nothing wrong. They had me worried that I might have gotten an aneurysm in my head(swollen artery that can burst and bleed out) . The other explanation was that I sprained some muscles that are in the back of the head and can take weeks to heal. Today has been a month and I haven't been feeling any headaches. So I decided to go to the gym today and test out my head. I worked out twice today, 1 hour after school and another hour at about 5 pm. I was headache free! Hopefully it stays this way and with this experience I've learned what I had done wrong that injured me. It is very important where your head is angled while doing pull ups! What made it worse is that I like to hold my breath while exerting the weight which causes a spike in your blood pressure (which can be dangerous) but now that I learned the hard way, I'm back in business into making the stronger version of myself.

Blog 6 - Second Interview Preparation

1. My mentor is a coach that works for a middle school. (I plan on getting other mentors for more experience)

2. The questions I will be asking are:
- What made you want to coach the young ones?
- Do you have relatives that are also active/into sports?
- Do you try to train the kids with different routines or keep it constant?
- what do you look for to find the best team?
- How many championships have you won?

Blog 5 - Mentorship Reflection

1. I have found a mentor but I start working with her Thursday. It's a great experience especially since she lets me go in the gym without a membership and also, she is going to have a personal trainer that works there be another mentor for me. This experience made me realize that the more people I communicate with, will lead me to other helpful people.

2. The most important article I have read so far would probably have been the mind fitness one. I didn't really think much of it but my mentor was telling me about how fitness can be for the mind not just the body. So that article is the most important to me so far since I have heard it from someone else as well.

The Gym

I'm going to be doing my mentorship at the gym I attend Fitness19. I'm going to work with a personal trainer and see if I can get other mentors as well to get as much experience as possible. I haven't started because they have been busy but I will soon and for now I'm working out there. The Fitness 19 gym is pretty small but it gets my gains going. I will probably be with a P.E teacher at another school as well.

Blog 4: Interview Preparation

1. I plan on interviewing a Zumba instructor because she has more free time so it would be easier to interview her. Also because Zumba is a great way to get in shape and be fit.

2. Questions I will be asking:

  • What interested you into doing Zumba?
  • What keeps you motivated and so energetic doing the classes you do everyday?
  • Was Zumba life changing for you? Or for others you teach/instruct?
  • What's your opinion on fitness and/or exercising?
  • Do you do any other activities or hit the gym to get in shape and stay fit?

Summer Mentorship Component

1. Log Hours
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ar0GHkWHZi1LdC1FdjBOUVk4Q0tzd01jSUI5di1Qa2c&usp=docslist_api

2. Contact name & number
Central Care Physical Therapy: 909-590-7997

3. Questions raised:
Did she expect her job to be the way it is?
Why did she want to be a physical therapist?
Is the job worth what she worked for?
What is her belief in fitness or exercise.

4. From my experience there at the place, it made me think twice about becoming a physical therapist because I had conversations with the PTAs and they said that it's not really that fun having to massage people (most of the people being old) and it was a bit boring.

5. I want my senior topic to be fitness because that's one of the reasons why I chose physical therapy and I'm really fascinated by working out and exercising. I think fitness is a way to become a stronger version of yourself physically and mentally.

Blog 1 - Senior Presentations

1. What presentations did you see?

  • Karate
  • Cosmetology
  • Photography Galleries
  • Information Technology
  • Photography
  • Boxing
  • Beauty Salon
  • HLE Officer
  • Physical Therapy
  • Homelessness
  • Electrician
  • Marketing Management
  • Teaching Kindergarten
  • Nursing
  • Cake Decorating
  • Domestic Violence
2. What questions do you have that haven't been answered about the senior project?
  • Why is it called 2 hour presentation when the presentations were only about an hour and a half?
  • What are the boundaries for the activity?

3. What has the most important part of the senior project based on what you are seeing in the 2-hour presentations?
  • I think the 30 minute talk time was the most important part of the presentation because that's what most seniors were stressing over that I saw.
4. What topic are you considering doing and why?
  • I'm thinking of choosing weightlifting or personal training as a topic because I can make some gains but also do it right and it's something that I will enjoy.
5. What are you doing for your summer mentorship?
  • I am still searching for a mentorship but hopefully it will be on the topic above.
